“The good news is that stress is not the problem. The problem is that the strategies that deal with stressors have almost no relationship to the strategies that deal with the physiological reactions our bodies have to those stressors. To be “well” is not to live in a state of perpetual safety and calm, but to move fluidly from a state of adversity, risk, adventure, or excitement, back to safety and calm, and out again. Stress is not bad for you; being stuck is bad for you.” Emily Nagoski, PhD
THE SERIES
Many are actively experiencing burnout from work, this season of life, the pandemic, parenting, and life in general. Burnout can feel like emotional exhaustion. As Emily Nagoski, PhD wrote, “emotions are tunnels. If you go all the way through them, you get to the light at the end.” There are numerous practices to help you travel all the way through emotions and this series will offer at least four different practices for you decrease your feelings of burnout. By connecting with ourselves, our bodies, and each other we will find relief, community, and develop a plan for future feelings of exhaustion. No meditation or asana experience required for this series.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Session 1: Movement | Attendees will move their physical bodies in a supportive practice to release physical tension and energy from the body. The practice will focus on areas of the body we most commonly hold stress. Additionally, attendees will learn about the science behind why physical movement helps complete the stress cycle. This practice is inspired by vinyasa and restorative yoga.
Session 2: Meditation and Mindfulness | This practice will consist of meditation, mindfulness, and pranayama to facilitate energetic relief and adjust maladaptive thinking patterns that prolong emotional exhaustion. Inspired by mindful self-compassion practices, this session will offer practices attendees can use every day to help fend off burnout.
Session 3: The 2 Cs: Creative Expression & Connection | Our final session will offer opportunities for creativity and community building with fellow attendees.
