“You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf.” -Jon Kabat-Zinn
Are you interested in learning how to better navigate challenges, embrace uncertainty, and live a full and present life? If so, you’ve come to the right place!
Join the 8-Week MBSR series, a powerful and evidence-based mindfulness program. This program is often considered the gold standard for mindfulness meditation training and is backed by over 40 years of research. Over the course of eight weeks, you will learn tools to cultivate resilience, create clarity in your life, and improve overall well-being.
Through experiential learning, class discussion, and regular home practice, you will learn how to apply mindfulness in your life. Weekly practices include:
Instruction and group practice of several formal mindfulness meditation practices: seated meditation, body awareness meditation, and mindful movement.
Discussion of the roles of stress, thoughts, and emotions as they contribute to anxiety, chronic pain, and illness.
Daily home practice with guidance of shared recordings.
MBSR was originally developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the late 1970’s by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD., and has been proven effective in treating a number of concerns, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, fatigue, and grief. This full 8-week course is designed to establish consistent habits and also serves as the first requirement for those interested in pursuing the MBSR teaching pathway.
This series is perfect for those new to mindfulness as well as advanced practitioners. The only thing that is required is a deep commitment to regular practice and an open mind! An initial short orientation call is required for all participants prior to the start of class.
When:
Wednesdays, February 3-March 24 from 5:30-7:30PM
Includes a “Day of Noble Silence” on March 13 from 9AM-2:30PM. A short orientation call (~10 minutes) will also be scheduled with participants prior to the start of class.
Where:
All classes, including the day of silence*, will be held virtual over Zoom.
*A note about the Day of Noble Silence: This day will be held virtually. We recognize that for many of you, the Day of Silence may be challenging if you have a full home! The recommendation is that you share with your family or roommates your intention for silence and ideally have a dedicated space or corner where you can practice your meditation with the least amount of disruption as possible. The day will follow a typical “retreat-style” format with intervals of silent seated meditation, walking meditation (which can be done indoors or outdoors), gentle yoga, and a break for a silent lunch. There will also be a short talk and an opportunity for reflection and discussion at the end of the day. We recognize that this day might look a little differently for some of you. Part of the practice will be to notice and observe what arises, what it’s like to step away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday routine — and perhaps step in and out as needed!
Cost:
Registration is on a “pay-what-you-can” sliding scale rate, allowing individuals to determine the fee that is most fitting and fair for them. The goal is to provide this opportunity to anyone who thinks mindfulness might be helpful in their life and is committed to full participation and practice. The intention is that the sliding scale approach will allow access to these offerings to all who need it, in part due to the generosity of those who are able to pay in full. A typical 8-week MBSR series is between $375-$700. Thank you for determining the payment that seems most appropriate for you. If cost is a barrier to your participation, please reach out.
