Four weeks to build resilience and cultivate calm amidst the chaos from the comfort and safety of your own home.
We are going virtual! GIVE Yoga is excited to offer the abbreviated Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program online, providing an accessible opportunity to learn and practice mindfulness. Now, more than ever, as we navigate COVID-19, we need practical tools to deal with stress and anxiety. During these four weeks, you will learn the foundations of MBSR, discovering ways to experience greater ease and presence in your life, even in the midst of uncertainty and fear.
This research-based program was originally developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the late 1970s by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD., and has been proven effective in treating a number of concerns, including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, chronic pain, fatigue, and grief.
Through experiential learning, class discussion, and regular home practice, participants will learn how to apply mindfulness in their lives. Weekly practices will include:
Instruction and group practice of several formal mindfulness meditation practices: seated meditation, body awareness meditation practice, and mindful movement.
Discussion of the roles of stress, thoughts, and emotions as they may contribute to anxiety, chronic pain, and illness.
Daily Home Practice: meditation practice at home with the guidance of shared recordings.
Weekly classes will be held over Zoom. All participants will receive a PDF version of the MBSR workbook, in addition to weekly emails that include recorded meditations.
No experience is necessary but you must possess a willingness to dive into a 4-week community learning experience, with regular practice at home. If you have any questions about the program, please email Cecilia Shanahan.
